Plymouth Massachusetts is the largest town in area in the Commonwealth. It is a coastal community in southeastern Massachusetts about 5 miles north of the Cape Cad Canal. In the past Plymouth was mostly an isolated seacoast area where the economy was linked to the sea and shipping. The site of the original Pilgrim settlement in 1620 is now part of today’s thriving Downtown/Harbor district.

Because of its accessibility to the Boston metropolitan area and its desirability in terms of land prices as well as tax rates and other residential amenities, Plymouth’s population increased 145% in the 20 years between 1970 and 1990. The town has a healthy industrial and commercial base along with amenities that include exclusive golf course communities and miles of beautiful beaches.

Residents of Plymouth are proud of its downtown and harbor and beaches and are committed to controlling its residential growth while welcoming industrial and commercial expansion.
